The House Committee on Public
Lands have agreed upon a bill with
reference to the Public IjukIs of every
class. In it are embraced some Im
portant and 'good changes from the
laws now m force. Among these is a j
provision as to timber lands, which re- (
at ricts any person, company or corpor-;
ation to the purchase cf no more than
the timber on four sections of land, the
minimum price of which shall to fit)
per acre. Another clause provides that
pieces of land less than 160 acres may
to sold at private sale for not less than
f 7.30 per acre. Mineral and reserved
lands are exempted from classification
as desert lands. The price of desert

and the time of occupation and irriga
tion is reduced from five years to three
years, with privilege to mortgage one
half the tract to enable the pettier to
make improvements thereon ; the mort
