Each citizen of Oregon has an in
terest In the whole state. It is not fair

bid a law by which the ret of the state

izen of Oregon must cant his vote for
the leuelit of the whole state.

Was adopted.
The chairman then stated the objoet
of the convention.
On motion of P. II. Webb, the tem
orary officers of this convention were
declared the permanent ofllcers.
Col. George Woodford, of Illinois,
being present was then invited to ad
dress the convention, and entertain
ed the convention for half an hour
with some eloquent and encouraging
words, encouraging the progress of the
temperance cause.
On motion, a vote of thanks was
unanimously tendered Col. Woodford
for his address.
Report of committee on credentials
was read recommending that Dr. U. F.
Crawford and D. P. Porter were enti
tled to seats in this convention, was
adopted,
P.H.Webb moved that a commit
tee of three be appointed to nominate
an executive committee. Peter Hume
of Brownsville, moved to amend by
adding the name of t lie president to
such committee. Motion prevailed.
The president appointed A. M.Ac-he-son,
Peter Hume ajid B. II. Irvine as
such committee.
The chairman called R. Robe to the
chair.
Moved by A. M. Acheson, and car
ried, that the committee appointed to
nominate an executive committee, be
requested to report in ten minutes.
On motion of F. M. Miller, the fol
lowing resolution was adopted :
Jicohcd, That the editors of the
State Riffht Democrat and the Jlcr-ald-Dirxainator
! requested, if not
inconsistent with their views, to sup
port the pending prohibitory amena

When Kline, the liinsl man. entered
the room, Kelty had fled, and the mor
dent! wwman was just expiring, with
her anus around her ialc, with her

The ball had entered on the left side
of the head, just altovc the ear, Imrcly

directly downward and Ksliiing in the

murder her. The hair on the child's
head was humid by powder, and the

News of the murder spread rapidly,
and a crowd gathers! around the house,
and the search for Kelty began. He was
traced through the I writ and dew-wet
gras, and early In tiie morning was
fouinl at a neighUr's Mr. Alexander,
alsnit a mile and a quarter from the
scene of the murder, ami within a half
a mile of his fathers house. He Was
lying upon a sofa U fore a tire, and uiv
on in-holding his pursuers, he weekly
exclaimed: "It will all be over in a
few minutes, itoys."
It was found that Kelty was tmdty
wounded, the bullet having entered the
left breast, near.the nipple, anil lodged
just under the shoulder blade. His
wound is a lad one, but he will prolm
bly n-cover. A physician afterwards
proln-d for the bullet but could not lo
cate it.
Kelty was weak and nerveless, and
when 'asked why he committed the
murder he could only respond: "I do
not know." lie is :i years of age, ami
was liorn at present. homo of his father.
His deccascit wife was 22 years old.
Ktlbrt has been made to find the pis
tol, but so far thesearch has Is-cn fruit
less. The murderer purchased his i-artr
ridges, at Perrydale, and in the morn
ing at McCoy called Utnn Railroad
Agent tlraves and asked to !o allowed
to enter the deimt where his trunk was.
From the trunk he tin k the pistol, load
ed it, and fired one chamier from the
depot platform tow if it was loaded
properly. This was about H o'clock.
Then he went and committed the fear
ful deed.
Coronor ICirpatriek was called and
held an inquest, and the verdict of the
jury was in accordance with the fore
going facts.
People sympathize entirely with the
woman, and nothing but Kelty's rc
sXftable connection and hitherto good
reputation save .his neck. A guard has
I (ecu placed over him at his home, where
his wants are being attended to.
