Swan Speak* at Providence

At the regular monthly meeting
of th* city council last Thursday
night, there were still echoes of th*
December freeze.

Monday night at the Providence
school house. Representative L. L.
Swan gave a clear exposition of th*
law* he was able to get passed. He
said he alone was responsible for the
state appropriating $5000 to aid ti *
Linn county fair; that a millage tax
was Imposed upon trucks and bus-«-
for every mile traversed; and for

gey to succeed himself as fire ehief.
W. F. Gill, by unanimous choice,
was elected president of th* eoancil
Fire Chief Hagey was instructed
to purchase two emergency clampe

It was ascertained from th* citv

Hamilton's Body Found
The body of Harold Hamilton, who
was drowned last December while
breaking ice on the spillway of the
Mountain State* Poorer Co. at Al­
bany, was found by Seth French
last Sunday morning while canoeing
on the Calapooia river. The body
was caught on a willow about 250
feet from where ho went down.
He was buried yesterday at Oakville.
