To Kill Dandelions
By Franklin E. Gilkey
Dandelions are removed from
lawns by the application of poison.
The poison is prepared at home bv
boiling 2 pounds of white Arsenic in
1J gallons of soft water then adding
3 (Hiunds of caustic soda and 3 gal
lons of soft yvater and again boiling.
|j»rge area.i of the Oregon Agricul
tural college lawns have been treated
in tins way and the plants killed.
The poison is applied by dipping a
pointed stick In the solution and
pushing the point into the fleshy
center of the dandelion and allowing
the poison to drain from the stick
into the plant. Thia treatment will
kill the plant to the tip of the roots
in 2 to 4 days.
The mixture is poisonous and will
kill anything it touches. If the so
lution is to tie stored any length of
time a gla.«s containsr will be neces
sary due to its caustic nature.
