They follow: First Employment of cruisers to chase and destroy German raiders which mav slip through the lines of the British blockade. Second Complete control of all harbor. Fourth Maintenance of a patrol of destroyers and other small craft to guard commerce lines leading to and from American porta. The department's statement follows: The expedition will have a total strength of between 11.000 ami 12.« men. each regiment being composed of two batallions of three companies t The largest cash money transact I ion which has been effected in Scio for many years was, practicallv, completed this week, when th«’ Scio Milk Comiensery sold its plant, busi ness. g<»ojl will, etc., to the Logan Commercial Co., of Seattle, Wash. The Tribune has known that this ! deal was under contemplation for several weeks, but as nothing defi nite was given out. nothing but the prospective deal could be mentioned. Now the trade is sufficiently ad vanced for $1000 of the purchase money to tie paid and it can be as sumed that the deal is surety. The purchasers. The Logan Com mercial Co., is a Seattle concern, which handles large transactions, both foreign and domestic, and has for some time handled the conden- sery’s product. In this way the acquaintance was formed and as the Scio product has giving such excellent satisfaction, the Seattle people desire«! that the output should be increase«!. This increase could not be made unless an increase of capitalization was made which our local men did not feel disposed nor able to do. Hence the sale. The Scio condensery was a purely Scio concern, owned at first bv 12 Scio busineM men and farmers. One share was taken up bv the company, leaving but eleven share holders. The plant has been oper ate«! for the past eight or ten years with not very great success, due« mainly to process men who either did not know h«>w to make the milk or was making inferior milk pur posely. For this reason the life of the company has been somewhat precarious. But for the past year or more, the Country Club milk has grown rapidly in favor and this in- creased demand has enabled the eonqiany to pay a price for milk which has been very attractive*to farmers. Th«’ supply of milk at the Baltimore, Md., May r> Despite official attempts to discredit the statement made Saturday by Wm. ! Saunders, chairman of the Naval I Consulting Board. that an invention i practically had l>ern perfected that j would end the submarine menace, ' there is such an invention. This wm , learned in Baltimore today where the invention was discovered by a Baltimore engineer. Mr. Gathmann. the inventor, was loath to discuss the invention, but authorized this statement: "Mithin three or four months there will be no submarine menace The plan that will mean the eradica tion of the German U-boat as a real n cnac* will take about that time to be worked out. When it has Iwn worker! out and ia in actual opera tion then a statement of some kind may be made. "But I cannot say anything now. nor do 1 think anyone else has ije«-n authorized to uy anything.” From sources other than Gath mann. It is known definitely that the invention and the plan which now has the approval and the confi dence of the naval consulting board is of recent birth, it was completed al>aut three weeks ago at the plant of the Gathmann Engineering Co. lauit Friday marked a red letter day for Scio when “Old Glory" was thing to the brvez<-a. Dr. Young in a short but moat appropriate address, divided the history of the United States into four epochal or crisis periods. via: The Revolunitary war. the Civil war. the war with Spain and the present war with Germany, all of which were and are in the defense of liberty. Just at the conclusion of dress. Uncle Sam and the of IJbertv hoisted the flag school sang "The Star Spangled Banner” which concluded the cere mony. In the afternoon the athletic stunts at the fair grounds were pulled off, in which the Scio and Jefferson schools divided honors. Owing to the fact that Portland was out of bunting, the handsome new 10x15 flag could not lie used. so the fair grounds flag was borrow ed for the occasion and will I n - used until the new flag arrives, which will be the last of next week.
