Electric Ught and Water System
From reports I learn that, owing
to an inadequate dam in Thomas
creek, the power supply is not suffi
cient to operate the plant up to
standard, even at this time of the
year, with an abundance of water
in the stream
I would, therefore,
recommend an immediate investiga
lion on this matter
First, aa to
securing additional water power.
Second, the installation of either
gas or steam power, to operate the
plant when the water power is not
sufficient or available ami third, an
inspection of all waler mains and

It waa first announc«! that the

lowering the levy in view
This action is due to th«* fact that
the state tax is l«-ss than the court
figured it would I m * ami is also due
to the law regulating the county
courts in making budgets.
Under the law, the court wax
compelled to draft the budget ami
make the tentative levy th«* first of
the month ami then advertise it for
20 days, liefore final action. Thia
the Unn county court did and in
doing so, had to estimate th«* state
tax. which hadn't lawn levied at the
time.
A few days later the state tax
levy was announced
It renrewnta
a sum of $82.800. In the tentative
budget, the court hail estimated it
at $100.000.
Consequently there
waa a difference of approximately
$17.700.
Aa the law states that everything
should he account*«! for in the
budget, the court figure»! that thia
surplus could not I m * used, although
it waa at first planned to put it in
the general fund, lfauring to plav
safe in the matter aa, according to
members of the court, there is no
telling when an objection to any
action taken may I m * raised, the
Court decided te lower the levy the
half mill as it would re»iucv the
budget to what the court had figur
ed for running expenses.
Commenting on the recommenda
tion of the Taxpayers’ U*agu<* com-
mi tier to spend the surplus for

Oiunty Commissioner Irvine acid:
