Auto Has Close Call
What might have been a very
serious auto ucciiient happened
nt Went Station on th«* Wood
burn-Springfield branch railroad
last Thursday evening when the
nuto driven by Mrs Holdridge of
P aitiview, in company with her
brother F L Beard of Yoncalla,
was struck by train No. 97 in
charge of Conduct« r Robert Sel
lers, resulting in a badly dam
aged radiator, one front wh«el,
and other daningts totaling prob
ably $100. At tl e point when
the accident occurred the track
is partly concealed by an orchard
and fence. Both Mrs iloldridg«
and Mr Btard say that the first
warning received of the ap
proaching train was given when
the train waj not mere than 60
feet away.
Mm Holdridge
showed great presence of mind
in turning the auto abruptly to
the left so that the train just hit
it. which act doubtless saved
