A short history of M C Gaines:
Born in 1SI>3, lived with his par­
ents until 1886 when he married
Mi - Francis Poindexter, moved
on a small stock ranch at the
h< ad of Racoon Hollow
Lived
there till 1890 when he purchased
1(K) acres off the old Elliott farm
where he farmed and raised
stock.
He R bs bought small
tracts off the same farm until
now he has the whole place, so
he now owns 1147 acres of land.
He has 30 head of tine horses,
120 head of cattle, 250 head of
sheep, 120 goats and 80 head of
fine hogs. He has 500 acres of
farm land and647 of pasture; has
nine barns ranging in size from
40 x 60 to 60 x 90 feet with 20
ft post*.
He is L*eding 100
head of cattle twice each day
with 500 lbs hay and 12 dozen
bundles sheaf oats, and is keep­
ing 13 head of horses in barns
and 50 head of hogs. His chores
are a good days work for any
man but his hard work has made
it all. He has no children.
