The Albany Democrat’s corre spondent from Pocatello, Idaho, re cently visited Salt Lake city and has this to say about the great tab ernacle in that city: “The building is 15Ô feet wide, 250 long and 80 feet high, being the largest house for religious worship in the world. It has a seating ca. pacity of 9500 and will hold 11,000. The construction of the building is unique, in that it is egg-shaped, and without a pillar support. The latticed truss'work of the roof is 10 feet from ceiling to shingles, and the mammoth arches rest upon forty-four stone piers, giving it the oval appearance which it repie- sents. Between these stone piers are twenty double doors, all open ing outward, so that the largest con gregation can find egress in less than five minutes. , Services are held every Sunday afternoon at 2 O’clock, and strangers are welcomed; the only restriction being that those who do attend will remain till the clq£e.of-thp services. The Mormon church has no preacher^ The president calls on some two or thiee of. the twelve apostles, who speak as the spirit moves them. The acoustics of the tabernacle áre truly Wonderful. I stood in the gal lery 200 feet away and could dis tinctly hear a pin dropped on the chancel rfiil, and a whisper was eas ily heard and understood. The great Organ is a remarkable feature of this world-famed build ing, and absorbed the greater part of my attention. How I did long to get at the key board and play “Ta- ra-ra-boom de-ay.” I think I would have made a hit. This in strument is made entirely of native wood. It is 3t) by 33 feet, and 48 feet high. On the 6th of January at the inaugural services there were 550. I had the pleasure of singing with them, by special request, at that time, still I shoyld like it distinctly understood that I am not a mormori. At the time of the inaugural meeting the interior'decorations were on a magnificent seale, the most noticeable part being the monster flag drawn up against the oval ceiling. At the Lebanon cemetery today, we noticed a beautiful double col umn monument, of fine workman ship and material, being of the finest grade of imported Italian marble. A closer inspection showed it to be at the gfaVes of two of our old pioneers, Moses Bland and wife, and it is a fitting tribute of re spect to that class of pioneers who braved the dangers and privations incident to the settlement of this country, but who are now fast pass ing away.—Lebanon Express.. ideal Panaca, James L.
