Henry Cyrus went to Portland Tuesd ry, on a business trip. J. K. Thomas, Silverton’s livery man, spent Sunday in town. Mr. Vennor of Brownsville, has been in town this week, working insurance. Dr. EO Hyde went to Eugene Monday to attend the grand lodge K, of P. to which he was a delegate. Miss Della Brown returned yes terday from Harrisburg, where she has been sojourning during the past summer. Prof. Barzee, principal of Mineral Springs Seminary, of Sodaville, was in town Saturday. He reports the prospects bright for that school. Greene Coffey and wif e were in Eugene the first of the week. A large lot of side Walk lumber was received at Munkers this week, for Scio, from up the Oregon Pacific. The lumber is to be used principally on the south side, so we are. in formed.- The city council should have a coating of gravel plaed on the square at the intersection of Main and Mill streets,, else a boat will be the proper medium of conveyance for crossing it when the winter fains are at hand. . Wright and McCord, the two men who were arrested a few days ago for attempting to wreck the over land train near Drain, Douglass county,- were able to establish their innocence when brought to trial and were discharged.
