UNDESIRABLE IMMIGRATION. IS PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY, BY T. L. DUGGER, ICIO, LINN CO., OREGON. The startling news comes from Europe that five hundred or more continental emigrants propose toeni • ¡grate to the United States to escape the “persecution»” Of the poli.ee. Five hundred anarchists means five hundred men who are too lazy to work with their hands, whose only stock in trade consists of revolution ary speeches, whose sole aim is to live at the expense of somebody else. If these fellows are permitted to land in New York, or any other American port, they will show tlieir appreciation by denouncing Ameri can laws and fomenting trouble in the ranks of the wage workers. They will spread their dangerous doctrine among the lawless and ig norant foreigners in our large cities, and may be instrumental in causing another Haymarket tragedy. Thé United States has always been an asylum for the oppressed of all na tions. Millions of good men have availed themselves of her liberal immigration laws. ■ Most of them have become good citizens and loyal Am ericuns. A few, however^rfflve returned good for evil. Instead of- studying the constitution of their adopted country, they cling to doe trines inimical to all law. Instead of championing the cause of liberty, they advocate .Ucen.se. Such crea tures should be treated by the gen eral and state governments as out laws. Heretofore these men have come singly as individuals. They hid nothing to say about their, peculiar doctrines, and consequently could not be refused admission by the com missioners of immigration. With the five hundred revolutionists who now talk about crossing the Atlantic in a body, the case is different. To allow them to set their feet upon American soil would be a crime against- freedom and liberty, and a blot on American civilization. i i I ■ DEMOCRATIC, TICK: For Representatives—M A Miller, A Blevins, W P Elmore.
