\ IN A. w is ir a - My yarn today has to do w ith u waterspout In th ’ Java Sea. Kangy and I were cruisin’ w ltn my old shipmate, ip mi Tops’1 Barney, In nlt< schooner, th* Lunui. It wua ho hot that th ’ pitch wan bubblin’ out of th ’ scams in th ’ deck. Over- Hide, th ’ seas were ro llin ’ past in a long, greasy «well. OIT <>n th ’ horizon th ’ sky was ge ttin ’ blacker and blacker. A ll on board be gan to feel that trouble of Home kind was brewin’. Barney bawled to th ' crew to take in nail. In a j i f f y th ’ halyards were w h intiin’ through th ’ blocks and th ’ water, headin’ rig h t fo r us, wan a monster waterspout. Across th ’ black sky jagged spears of llg h tn ln ’ were fla sh in ’, and that great waterspout w a s grow ln’ higher every minute, and movin’ fanter and faster as it rushed toward us. W ith a roar it was upon us. Barney yelled fo r all hands to bang o n ! I t seem ed like th ’ whole sky, fu ll of water, h a d dropped down upon us, and th ’ boomin’ of thunder, and th ’ crashin' of seas contra’ aboard wus awful. Then, we missed Kangy! Barney was th ' tirst to see him. He pointed, and there was Kangy, in a wooden tub, floatin’ away on top of u great, foam-tipped wave. But that little fe ller wus brave! W ith his fro n t feet he was puddlin’ fo r his life toward th ’ schooner. A ll at once a towering sen rear ed up and rolled over him. I thought th ’ end had come fo r my little pal. Then, what do you think, th ’ next minute Kangy came floatin’ over th ’ ra il onto th ’ .deck. T h ’ storm had passed. Soon th * warm sup was shinin’, and when we look ed about we saw that all hands were safe and sound. In no time at a ll th ’ Sails were hoisted, sheeted home and th ’ Lanui headed away on her course. » O k O m -rv < V \ a --------- — ... ■,— ■--------- v n~~Y a S b jjiwri -----------------— /• a j M RRV A L L H A N L > - ,J -» ‘ t o w r F H 5» a 11_1 i g j t y 1 cak ' t T H l N i IN ■5 5 » ^ A , do u 01 I N T O IT * W I T O u 'L L m a k e I t* r K .A K ts 'T 't CHK- - MAM • Z OVCRBOAR.0 ’. 4 £>4V£ - -v HOvJ DIG YOU COME To ftn E A K OuO- H E D O o OM v OM d o W P a he v / e l l , / SAvVA G n E A T So 1 TOO K M O H IT . ?
