Hood R iver cltlxens laid aside busi­
ness for a couple of hours recently
to dedicate the city 's new $250,000 m u­
nicipal w ater system , w hich is now
affording users In th e corporate lim ­
its and orchardlata whose homes are
along the pipeline w ith 4,500,000 gal­
lons of w ater per day.
F ire o rig in atin g in the Oregon hotel
a t Chiloquin destroyed th e hotel and
th e ad joining Brown building. Dam­
age was estim ated at about $35,000.

R esidents of Bangor, west of N orth
Bend, and separated from th e main
city by Pony inlet, will have city w ater
soon. A rrangem ents a re being made
to extend th e m ains to Bangor, w here
th ere is a resident population of more
th an 1500. The m ain will be laid this
sum m er by the. O regon-W ashington
W ater company.
An unusually heavy crop of excellent
q uality alfalfa hay is being harvested
at Cove, w ith the second crop m aking
good grow th. W inter w heat Is head­
ing and prom ises a good crop. S pring
sown grains and corn a re m aking good
grow th and looking fine. C herry pick­
ing is scheduled to begin July 15 to 20,
w ith a m u 'h heavier crop th an th at
of last year.
The Pacific northw est has started
to harv est a w heat crop of »2,612,000
bushels. T his estim ate was issued by
L. F. Kent, statistician for Oregon of
the U nited " ta te s dep artm en t of ag ri­
culture. The crop is not as large as
th a t of last year or the year before,
but it is slightly b etter th an the aver­
age crop. It also is larg er th an grain
men anticipated a few weeks ago.
