Public Schools Forever A Principle laid down in Mass achusetts Bay Colony in 1647 Public education, supported and urerTlsJ by the 1ate. was the original American educational programme. It was inaugurated In 1647. when th Massachusetts Buy Colony ordained that every town of fifty nous. holder should provide public school for the use of ALL. the reopte. This law pro viding for universal compulsory education was made national in KS?. when government recorded Itself to the effect that public schools and the means of education stall bo forever encouraged. Thus our forefathers foresaw, with that rare wisdom which marked their deliberations generally, thai education of American youth In the public schools was a necessary means to the end of moulding an elightened cltitenry and through It perpetuating the' growth and development of American Institutions. What our forefathers saw; what was true then. Is equally true today. By educating all our children In the public schools, so that they may oecome imbued with common ideas and ideals as to the things which mate for patriot ism and fealty to our Institutions; by teaching them English only and by teaching them history from the standpoint of an all-Amerlcan patriotism and i.ot that of the glorification of any one class or creed above another by go in these things we shall build up unified America and weld a united people. Let us here tn Oregon do our part now. Vote 314 X Yes. VOTE 314 X YES A VOTE FOR A UNIFIED AMERICA Eugene Compulsory School Ltague. L.
