KELLY FOR GOVERNOR
A modest sized boom has been
started for the nomination of George
H. Kelly on the republican ticket for
governor at the next general election.
Mr. Kelly was well known here In
the earlier years of the operations of
the Hooth Kelly Lumber Co. He ami
K. A. Booth pave name to the company
Vt. Kelly saw service over seas in
the world war. and attained tl
rank of lieutenant colonel If he
made a political campaign, of cours
it would be as "Col. Kelly." No doubt
the citizens of Springfield, especially
the older residents, irrespective of
politics would feel a degree of pride
in the fact that their town had fur
bished a candidate for the governor
thip. And to furnish the candidate
n the republican ticket would be to
Jurnlsl. the governor, unless another
Chamberlain should arise.
: son, delivered his message to con
gress in person, at 1 p. tn Tuesday,
the two houses sitting Jointly tn the
hall of representatives. The message
was a rather long one, and is lookel
upon as a sort of declaration of pol
icy of the incomirg a Iminist ration.
While congress, during this special
session, will have several great, and
many minor problems of internal leg
islation to wiestle with, it seems pro
bable that the settling of a policy
of dealing with international relations
will be the real bone of contention
, This iiuostion will doubtless lead to
a good deaj of fencing for advantage
of position and sparring for time, and
may make the session a much longer
one that was first expected.
