The Scout Master, while In The
News office the other day stated tL.it
the last two meetings had been only
partly successful, owing to the pre
sencj of unfriendly outsiders. At th
last meeting there were several boys
Ihere as invited visitors, but there
was one young chap whose presence
was neither invited nor desired.
This particular young man seemed
to suffer from a lapse of memory.
Only a few weeks ago tie Juvenile
officer. Harbaugh had warned him to
stay away.
Vhen his attitude became obnox
ious at the last meeting the 'scout
master ordered him off the floor. IPs
refusal in blanket" blank terms com
pelled the scout master to forcibly
eject him.
The greatest service that tie com
munity could render to this boy
would be to find some means of com
pelling him to mend his ways before
it is too late.

AMERICANIZATION
The way to Americanize is to begin
with yourself. Go to work at some
honest Job. Save some of your earn
ings. Tay for what you get. Do not
unload yourself on your fellow citizens .
in some public job for which you
have no preparation or ability,
modest and courteous.

COOPERATION
Tl is word is exactly the opposite
of sociaTsm and paternalism, co
operation does n t depend on state
laws and state taxes to support wlnt
it undertake. It recegnUes the nec
essity of brains, experience and In
dustry and does no try to get along
without capital. It divides profits
in proportion to ttie service tviulcrid
in producing it.
STANDARDIZATION
The Invention of minimum wages
and standardizing salaries got a
body blow from the school officers of
Marion county, Oregon, who refused
to adopt a teachers set salary
schedule. These farmers and busi
ness men said they were willing to
pay a good salary to the experienced
and successful tenet er. That Is com
mon horse sense.

Preventatlve Medicine.
The tendency of medical science Is
toward preventative .measures. It l
easier and better to prevent than to
cure. Pneumonia, one of the most
dangerous diseases that medical men
have to "contend with, often follows
a cold or attack of the grip. The
cold prepares the system for the re
ception and develpment of the pneu
monia germ. The longer the cold
hangs, on, the greater the danger.
