BEALS ADVERTISES STATE
(Continued from page one)
was assistant Instructor of household
arts in The Dalles high school. D. L.
Beala la a brother of Mrs. Frank
Withers and Dean Beals, both of
Sringfield
Mr. Beals called at The News office
and related some of the work being
done at Riddle to advertise that town
and community and for all Oregon.
The Oregon Growers Cooperative
association has a large fruit packing
plant at Riddle, through which most
of the fruit grown in that section is
handled.
Each box that goes out is labeled
"Mlstland", giving the name of the
product and 'the location from which
it comes. This is done by the asso
ciation. The Riddle State bank, however,
has taken the responsibility of put
ting inside of each box a circular
telling of the nature of that country,
the climate, possibilities, etc.. and a
few recipes for the use of the prune,
and esking that the purchaser post
thi3 circular.
Mr. Beals says that this method
Is already bringing results, in the
number of inquiries that community
is receiving. He believes it to b
one of the best mediums of advertis
ing Oregon and urges that more of
this work be done.
"This section of Oregon produces
prunes that are absolutely unexcelled !
anywhere", is the claim made by
Mr. Beals. He says that in the last
ten years there has been only one
partial failure of that crop in Douglas
county, and that this year nearly a
million dollars worth of prunes were
growja in Douglas county. About
flOO.OCO worth remain unsold at this
time.
