PIGS LIKE BALANCED RATIONS An Important factor In balancing pigs' rations, and one given too little consideration, is crude fiber, which should not exceed S.S per cent of the ration, says a new bulletin on finish ing pigs for market, Just issued by the O. A. C. experiment station. Com mercial hog feeds advertised aa car rying desirable percentabea of pro tein and carbohydrates are worth but little If the crude fiber content runs too high. Alfalfa hay contains 28 per cent crude fiber, and to give neces sary amount of nutrients would re quire the animal to eat 15 to 20 pounda a day "a physical impossi bility." Hence it Is not possible to fatten hogs on alfalfa bay. The most economical main and supplemental feeds for ' balancing the ration are listed with their respective ratios for best results.
