H. 8. is asleep T 'Why, Monday the girls all cam to school in aprons and with balr In curls. Had Mr. Roth been able to come that morning ho would probably thought ho had njc-cldently stepped into the Fourth-grade room instead of the High school assembly ball. Bach lady member of tb faculty was adorned In a dish aprpa and Miss Macben bad a pretty blue ribbon becomingly tied about ber bead. Thin action of the girls aroused the boys, who held a meeting last evening, and this morning came out In old clothes, neatly patched trousers, or coats without tbo patch, gay neckties, etc. They' arranged themselves In tho hall, ami as Mr. Roth rang the bell they serpentined about tbo assembly ball under tho lead of Milton Coffman; then gathered on tho platform and gave a couplo of High school yells. FROSH ENTERTAIN THE UPPER CLASSMEN Last Thursday morning was one of special delight for the members of the upper classes, as they were given twenty minutes' entertainment by the freshmen. There programme was as follows: Speech by president, Alice Morten sen; Recitation, Irene KIrtchener; Stunt, Leonal Vorlss, Phyllis Kester; Song, Winifred Harpole, Dorothy Ditto. Alene Larimer; Recitation, Edythe Cyr; 8ong, several girls; High school song, entire class. The twenty-seventh of October in the year of 'nlnteen Scarcely a boy was anywhere to be seen For the girls in their pigtails and aprons arrayed Marched forth In their splendor on dress parade. For a wonder the girls all seemed to be on time getlng Into the study hall Monday morning, while the boys. who had been standing off In small groups, came tip-toeing In with bated breath least they disturb the general quiet and peace which predominated. Our beloved professor being Informed beforehand, fell a victim to nervous prostration and sought refuge In his home during the entire day. It was amusing to see the expression on the boys' faces as tbey glanced with mingled bewilderment and uneasiness over the combined force of apron-clad girls and saw again the picture of some older sister standing in tho kit cben doorway frantically waving the rolling pin, or some other equally dan gerous cooking utensil, at tho re treating back of & small doughnut thief. But they need have no fear, for the assembly ball of the old S. H. S. Is not going to bo turned Into a Domestic Science room, at least for a while yet. In a few days the cur rent question of Importance among the boys will be, "Oh say, have you heard tho latest news? Aprons and curls are going out of fashion. Oh Joy!" . PERSONALS Verntta Morrison, who was abseat last week, haa returned to school again. The girls bad yell practice again Monday night to exercise their yell ing powers. Helen Myers has returned to school after two days' absence. Maurtne Lombard entered school last week aa a Junior. Hatel Brattaln is back to school again after a short absence. We are very sorry Mr. Roth Is not with us today and wo hope be may be well enough to come Tuesday. He will miss tho excitement of the girls' apron day. Miss Sybil Westfall, who has been absent from school for some time on account of illness, returned today. We are glad to have her with us again. class) : "Now, you people who drink coffee, why wouldn't you Just as leave oat four or five coffe berries as tb drink a cup of coffe?" Pupil: "Because we bar to work harder to cbow tho berries." Mr. Roth: "Oh, you lazy boy. Ill bet you can cbew all day on a stick of gum and never get a bit tired." Mothers and sisters didn't bave to press the boys' suits Tuesday. Oh! the suits were pressed beyond dis cretion. Tomatoes, apples, and rose buds are quite interesting objects thlese days. Ask tho Domestic Science class. In English I class Tuesday morning, Miss Derfllnger had the pupils do some transposing of sentences. Theo. Coglll was called upon and he said, "What shall I dor Miss Macben, to Vivian In Algebra "If you are 15 years' old and your father Is 25, how old Is your father?" Vivian: "25". (Pretty good work for a freshman, don't you think so)? Mr. Hamlin (in Teachers training class): "What is vermin?" Juanlta: "A bug." POOR REASONING Chicago. J. Ogden Armour of Ar raour it Co., Ernest A. Hamill, pres ident of tbo Cora Exchange National Bank; Julius Rosenwald, president of Bears, Roebuck Co., and sev eral other Chicago millionaires, are going about today clad In shoes re cently half-soled. Tbey refuse to pay $14, SIS and $18, the price "good shoes" are sell ing for hero. Armour says bo bought his first pair, of new shoes in three years last week. Rosenwald, whose company owns a shoe factory or two, hasn't taken a pair of new shoes out of stock for two years. All of which hasn't anything te do with limousines. You can bet your bottom dollar that Armour and the rest of them "half-sole" their limou sines too. ' Men with money always refuse to pay the other fellow's price. The other day a wealthy man in Ban Fran cisco spent a half day haggling over tb price of an expensive automo bile. Ho finally forced tho prloe down fifty dollars. "Well, I saved that mueh, any how," be said, exhibiting the $50. "I hate to pay the other fellow's price." Rich men ara rich beeause they buy carefully aad save. Oet the sav ing bablt.
