It also estimates total construction for 1919 at 40 to i0 per

Our country is liable to Jose six million alien laborers of whom
1,500,000 have gone or are going this year.
This kind of labor is leaving New York at the' rate of 1000 a
ueek, and the supply of labor for industries is scarce.
Lumber yards iu New York and many eastern cities have less
than one-third of a normal supply, and demand is increasing.
Of a hundred brick yards in a famous eastern clay products
district, more than 70 are idle for lack of labor.
Indications are that scarcity of buildings will continue through
1920 and that the demand for lumber will continue to increase.
