The Washington delegation kept the trail hot, and that's why thoy got results; but there Is manifestly a difference be twecn the Washington delegation nml the Oregon delegation. After all. It's the ability of OiOongressioual delega tlon to grasp what Its state needs and get those needs properly before the right authorities thnt counts. In the wood ship building program the Ore gon delegation has fallen down; In fact It never functioned. The recent rate dlclslon of the Inter state Commerce Commission, giving 15 per cent Increase to the transcon tinental railroads, makes tho building of a large Pacific coast merchant fleet more imperative both from a civil and a war standpoint. The more ships that can bo launched from the Pacific coast yards the greater the tonnage via Panama canal, and the cheaper tho deliveries of essential commodities at Pacific. Coast points and also of our commodities at Atlantic coast points. There Is every need for ship building contracts In Oregon.' and it Is time the Oregon delegation woke up or jcamo home. BY DORR1S SIKES According to David Dldwoll and a number of other worthy dignitaries at the High School, the "ratflo" box for choosing partners for the big "got ac quainted" meeting was tho most norvo rucking and exciting event of their High School career. At ono o'clock Superintendent R. L. Kirk called the assembly to, order and ..with tho aid of ,Mlss Ida Dlusdnlo settled the fato of every person In S. 11. S. for that one evening. Tho Freshmen wore exceedingly game and though we always suspected them of being rather timid they faced the guns, almost as well as the exper ienced Seniors.
