THURSDAY, JANUARY 17.191S FOOD SUPPLY ON THE DE CLINE According to the Food Admin istration, shortage of wheat in France is becoming more and more alarming each week. The minister of general revictualing indicated recently that a further reduction of 20 per cent in the bread ration .would soon become imperative. Denmark is now looking for ward to a reduction of wheat rations. Final figures for the cereal harvest show a total of about 02,000,000 bushels, which is 20,000,000 bushels less than in 191G and about 10,000,000 less than was estimated in the summer, when the populace was put on bread rations. Mr. MqAdoo, Director General of Railroads, has just issued a most earnest appeal to shippers and to everyone in any way in terested jn freight transporta tion to unload and release cars with all possible expedition. He calls attention to the cir cumstance thoughtlessly over looked by the average shipper that every hour a car is detained unnecessarily adds dangerously to freight congestion and is more instrumental than any other one thing in causing dis astrous freight blockades. Individual shippers are apt tQ. feel that an hour or two, or pos sibly a. day, does not amount to much, while the haste necessary would inconvenience him con siderably and entail additional cost. He forgets that a hundred thousand others are feeling and acting the same way, that the aggregate delay ifiearis" hundreds of thousands of' days of lost ef ficiency, . and that.. this stupen dous waste' causes the conges tion that 'finally breaks down the system. Mr. McAdoo is. npj, making this appeal through any consid erations of personal gain or pro fit to the railroads, but as a mat- place for final hearing, and at which i time the Court will pass upon any j and ail objections that may be filed thereto. All persons are hereby notified to file their objections if any they have with the County Clerk, of said County, on or before the hour of 10 o'clock A.
