THE KAISER'S GOD I Tne uerman rauperu. ut-au- ,fl a8 Kat QuarU Crcek StMo to suffer from a religious mania of Oregon, as will appear by Location , ; . . . ... , Notices filed In the office of the Re- which, projects his own charac- "of a8 roUow8 tf ter into his imagination of deity. wit: The Cheater mining claim; v. d ttqih ir ta ' was filed on the 20th day of July. A. says the Boston Herald. It is . D igos and m Book 6, on evident from, his words that the page 592; the Chester Extension mln , , , - . . o nr. ing claim was filed on the 27th day kind of god. he worships is un-1 ofK0ctoberi D.. 1908. and recorded known to modern religions and ia Book 6 on page 602; the Hilda unacknowledged by civilized na-, tions. The god of the Hon enzollern tribe or family it may be. but it bears not the slight-' ..est resemblance to God, the Father of all, who "made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth." It is a, ferocious deity that smiles oh vthe.Kaiser.out or his mirror. The following brief selection from his sayings, well chosen by Mr. Lovat Fraser, illustrates wnat passes in Emperor Wil liam's mind fojr religious thought: I represent Monarchy by the grace of God. Only one Master in the Empire and I am that one; I will tol erate no other. You must all have one will, and that Is My will; there is only one law, and that Is My law. V If I order you to shoot down your relatives, brothers yes, even your parents you must 0 bey me without murmuring (Speech to Potsdam recruits.) The spirit of God has descend ed upon Me because I am Ger man Emperor. I am the Ins trument of the Most High. I am His sword, His representa tive on earth. Woe and Death to those who oppose My will! Death to the infidel who denies My mission! Let all the en emies of the German nation per ish! God demands their de struction God, who by My mouth summons youi to carry out His decrees. (Proclama tion to army, Sept. 13, 1914.) If there is any shadow of blasphemy in these words the Kaiser, we may believe, is un conscious of it. He seems to think of some sort of puppet perhaps a pocket god somewhat., like Laban's gods, of which we; read that Rachel "put them in the camel's saddle and sat upon them." At any rate, changing a word or two in an ancient sentence, many thoughful peo ple will feel bound to say that the Kaiser created a god in his own image in the image of the Kaiser created he him. He is always in the hands of phys icians, .but none of them has yet successfully answered the ques tion, "Canst thou not minister to a mind diseased?" THE FOREIGNER'S OATH At this time in the country's great crisis it is well that every citizen familiarize himself with the oath all foreigners take when they become American citizens. It has been a long time since some have taken It, so we print it in full so that all may brush up their memory a bit Here It is: "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely re nounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince potentate, state or soverign, and particularly to (name of ruler of foreign country from which 'applicant for citizenship comes) of whom I have heretofore boon a subject; that I will support and defend the constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and that I will bear true faith and nlleg iance to the same."
