In view of the foregoing it is not at all strange that the wise and far-seeing men and wo men of the nation are banding togeJier, holding mass meet ings and urging upon the peo ple to bend every possible ener gy in the direction of crop pro duction. Not alone are the broad, untilled acres of Uncle Sam's domain being sought for agricultural purposes at this time but in the centers of popu lation where intensified produc tion can be brought about upon town lots and close-in acreage the people are being urged and every availble influence brought to bear upon the citizens to couple patriotism and produc tion in a campaign for meeting the physical needs of the people during this period in the world's history when war has made a frightful raid upon food supply everywhere and reduced it to Buch an extent that actual hun ger stares millions In the face unless the peoples, especially of agricultural countries, arise to Classified Ads For Sale, Rent, Wanted, Etc. Indications are that conservative people arc awakening to the need of getting away from tho mud and dust and expense of poorly built and maintained means of com munication. Moro Observer. Under the tax limitation law thero can be only 6 per cent Increase In taxes annually. As that Increase will probably be made by the tax levying bodies whether any extensive road building Is done or not, the voters should certainly decide In favor of good roads. There need be no fear of additional state bond Issues, either, unless the people of the state want thnn as such bonds can only be Issued after the matter has been approved by poj-ular vote. The present tax rate, with the annual C per cent Increase, will provide the state with an excel-l-;it sys em of toads In a few years. Since the taxes must bo paid anyway, I'.t's have good roads. Roseburg Re view, "Considering the condition of the roads the past few days," says the Burns Tribune, "It Is not likely that the people of Harney County will voto against the (6,000,000 bond Ihuuo or any other measure that has for Its purpose the building of permanent highways which would be passable the entire year. In this country where the ground Is practically level perman ent highways could be built at a nom inal cost. Under the present laws of the state there Is no reason why the roads should be In an Impassable con dition. If this county Is to progress and develop It must have roads over which teams and autos may pass not only certain portions of the year hut at all times." Call For Warrants.
