INCREASED LICENSE
: iAW NOWJN EFFECT
To Insure Road Construction
Automobiiists Should Vote
For Road Bonds.
'Many automobile owners are ot the
wplnton that tho law Increasing the
license on motor vehicles Is Included
mad made a part ot the 16,000,000 road
Jwnd bill. In this they arc wrong.
Tho automobile license was doubled
2a tho motor vehicle law which wai
unacted by the last Legislature. It It
now a law. The Increased automobile
license will be hi effect and will be
collected regardless of whether or not
the road baud bill Is approved by the
voters at thu June election. 1
1 urtheruiore, tho motor vehicle law
contains a provision that the money
raised from automobile licenses shall
available for road construction un
ler the plan outlined In the $6,000,000
road bond bill If tho bond bill carries.
In other words. If the road bond bill
Is defeated, the automobile llceusi
"money may be used for other purposes.
M the road bonds arc approved, tit.
nutoxnobllc owner has the positive as
xuranco that the money derived from
the Increased automobile licenses will
e expended hi building good roads.
Remember this: The autoaiobili
Dfrscr will have to pay the Increased
license any way, regardless of the fate
-of the J 6,000.000 road bond bill.
A vote for the road bond bill by the
automobile owner Is a vote for the
. expenditure of the autom'obllc license
money, which has to be paid anyway,
In building a system ot state-wide per
xnanent, hlghwaysaa outlined In the
Toad bond bill. '
In voting for the road bond bill, the
automobile owner will simply pave the
"way for the expenditure ot license
money that he will be required to pay,
ia building serviceable hard-surfaced
Toads in all sections ot the state.
Every automobile owner Is directly
-and personally Interested In the road
3)pnd bill. In voting for that measure
ie will merely be asking that the
rxaoney he will be required to pay any- i
-way shall be spent In building roads.
The automobile owner has everything
to gain and nothing to lose by voting
lor the road bonds.

It is safe to bet that the $6,000,000
state bonding measure will carry four
to one, and that the county bonding
measure will go through with a whoop;
-for the people of this county are over
"whelmtngly In favor ot a hard-surfaced
3hlghway through the county. And why
shouldn't they be In favor of these
measures when the highway can be
obtained with state and Federal aid?
Tlllamookers know a good thing when
"they i:e It, and no one need be sur
prised that they are all Jumping on
the right side of the fence. We an
tldJpate that those who are opposed to
the bonding the state and the county
lor good roads will soon be advancing
the argument- that we should go slow
-on account of the war, so as to scare
people. It will not work, however,
lor everybody knows that good roads
are the first step to preparedness.
