and to generally supervise the State
Banking Department.
The Banking Department consists

directed the singing at tho high school
nssembly for an hour. He expect
also to organize a high school chorus
for tho cantata. A similar practice
will be held next Wednesday after
noon. The sopranos and altos of the chorus
wl meet at Mrs. A. S. Washburne'a
home, on the corner of Fourth, and, C
streets, this evening to rehearse their
parts. The men will meet to rehearse
at the home of Mrs. Van Valzah, cor

night
This Is to be a community cantata,
all ot the church chorus uniting to
form tho chorus. The high school
students will form a second chorus.
The cantata will probably be given
on Wednesday, December 27, at the ,
Methodist church. The choir loft

in charge ot the Banking Department
for liquidation.
Of one hundred seventy-four State
banks the capital amounts to $8,524,
250.00, The demand, time and sav
ings, and United State postal deposits
amount to $44,284,999.35. The total
resources are $62,351,777.39.
Of seyen banks in Lane County the
Capital is ,$185,000.00 and the total de
posits amount to $1,047,950.21. The
total resources are $1,309,681.03.
The Oregon State Banking Depart
ment has helped the banks of the state
to strengthen their assets by elim
inating doubtful Items. It seems that
there has been great improvement
in some .districts by consolidation and
reorganizations. The superintendent
qaid. In his annual report tQ the Stato
Banking .Board, "Oregon banks, as a
whole, are in splendid condition and
are prepared to meet all legitimate
demands that may be made upon them.
