Rentals from these buildings amount to $180 a year, and this amount would pay the city's in terest onan investment up to 3000. The increase of the city's bonded debt by $2000 would be a very smaJl. .proijartion, ar.d, Iniew ot the fact that the in vestment would carry itself, would be good business for the city. While the city is considering these plans for the future, it would not be amiss to take a little thought of the lack of park blocks in what is, or may in the future be the business part of town. The block at Second and Main, used for the band con certs and other public outdoor meetings is private property, and is used by the courtesy of a citizen of Eugene, Mr. Klov dahl. Someday this town is go ing to take a jump ahead, and to use electric power they would use $50,000,000 worth of elec tricity per annum, making a per annum saving over coal of $129, 600,000. In other words, if the water powers of the west were allowed to be developed there would be saved per annum nearly $20, 000,000 in coal in the one item of-railroads. If the other industries of the west use as much coal as the railroads there would be another $200,000,000 coal saved annual ly or an annual saving for pos terity of $400,000,000 in coal for thejvest aloiie. , It begins to look as if the j pnnl linrnilo llnl'n , cnmaflifniy ' do with the fight on our water power development.
