Dick Burton Insists a Saving of $10,000.00 Can be Made . r wsmt When I announced myself as a candidate for the nomination for County Assessor I did so up on a basis of pure business, stat ing therein that I could and would if elected, save tho tax payers the sum of $10,000.00 during the next term. Up to this time I have not questioned the integrity of my opponent, although the words "malicious designs," "deception" and other expressions have been used by him in an effort to be little my stntmonts, to create sympathy and to evade the ques tion at issue. But now Mr. Taxpayer let us analyze Mr. Keeney's last pub lished statement and inquire WHY he thinks it necessary to imply, that a man with S or 10 years experience as Mr. Parker has had, is not able t' estimate the coBt of any particular depart ment of his office. WHY docs ho intimate in such plausible language that someone has prevaricated, when ho de clares that the statment 1 pub lished was not an authorized one, thereby leaving the impres sion that, it was never made? WHY does ho try to lead his i jaders, tho taxpayers and voters to believe that his "new system" of writing tho assessment rolls was referred to, when ho uses a quotation from Mr. Parker's let tr. which quotation had refer ence to the ilicthod of Writing tho Tax Statement and to the Collection of the taxes, and not in any sense to Mr. Keeney's part in the work? ! WHY does he try to lead you to believe that I have made en 'attack upon him personally, when I state that I can by using a different method, and by elim inating a head deputy at $1,200 per year, save the taxpayers a specified amount within a spec fied period? A bid for sympathy my fellow taxpayers does not assure us of a real saving in our taxes. When tho tax collector made the statement he did, it was done sincerely, and before there was an avowed candidate for this .office, and was discussed in many parts of Lane county. ' The Facts are that the system now in use is an expensive one, and there is absolutly no doubt that the amount I claim can be saved the taxpayers, and in the .following manner; Stay on the job myself, and ollminate tho useless expendi ture f $1,200 per year for a head .deputy. I So write the tax rolls that a saving of $2,000 can be made an ' nually. Save at least $10,000 during the next term of office if nomin 'ated and elected. Pd. Adv, D. P .BURTON.
