Electric Light Question.
Next Monday the voters of thla city
will be called upou to decide whether or
not they will accept tho proposition of
B. A. StnffordA Co , of Albany, to light
lliia city with electricity.
That tho people may understand the
... . ii . . . . f
proposition ana voie on mo matter in
telligently, we will try and explain It a
lucidly an po!iHih!o and according to tho
written tortus of the proposed contract
and the fctatometil of Mr. Jos. Ralston,
of Albany, rcproftcntin;i tho company,
At this election tho voters are not
nuked to grant or give away any fran
chise, bnt elm ply to vote to empower
tho Council to make a contract with this
company to furnish tho city with elec

put in arc lights of '-KX candlo owcr
and incandescent street lights of
candlo power, the arc lighte to cost S
wach per month and tho incandencetit
light 2 each per month. If two arc
lights are put iu at tlfl, that would give
the city seventeen incandescent lights at
$34, making pi nl) told. Tho company
further agrees to keep tho lights in re
pair and replace them with now ones
when necessary,
Mr. Rahton stys that his company,
if given tho contract, will give Junction
the same arc light for $S per month that
the city of Lebanon is now paying f 10
per month for wndor a ten 'years' con
tract. : '.' .' " '
ThU plant, if Installed, will be run by
water power and liarribonrg and Junc
tion CHv both lighted by tho Bame
power. "Tho promote! clatm that by
using water power and lighting both
cities with the sama plant they ore en
abled to make tho cost so moderate. To
install a plant In Junction City alone
and ubo steam power tho coat, would be
doublo what they now aalrr Iho con

The citizoog of Uarrisburg, we are In

needs them badly. To have the city
lighted with electricity would be a long
step in the direction of improvement,
and would ho an advertisement for tho
city that would overbalance the cost.
Thousands of intending settlor from the
Eaxtern States will vinit the towns in
this valley from now until next fall, and
the ones that make tho best showing
will reap tho greatest leneflt from this
increased immigration. Tho street
lights that we now have will hove to be
replaced with some kind of a light by
next fall. Let tho voters give this mat
ter the thought it deserves, and sottlo it
decisively at tho polls next Monday. -A
poll of the buiuesa men of the
city discloses the fact that a majority
are in favor of tho proposition.
