Celebrating Asian Heritage
The Asian Reporter honors Asian Heritage
Month amid the continuing worldwide
coronavirus pandemic. During the past year,
people across the globe have endured waves of
the disease as the delta then omicron variants
spread in communities around the world. We
encourage those who are eligible for primary
and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to
schedule an appointment or locate a drop-in
clinic. Please stay vigilant and informed of
new developments while taking appropriate
safety precautions to help keep all members of
our community safe and healthy.
In this special edition, we mark heritage
month with a look at the four weeks of cultural
performances, demonstrations, and interac-
tive activities offered by Portland’s Lan Su
Chinese Garden. Some of the featured
performers include Takohachi taiko, the
Vancouver Jasmine Dance Troupe, the
Cambodian Dance Troupe, and others.
The issue then highlights upcoming events
and featured content created by The
Immigrant Story, an organization that shares
the stories and experiences of community
members.
Scheduled
events
include
storytelling, pan-Asian music, an exhibit, and
more.
The section continues with numerous pro-
grams, shows, and documentaries scheduled
to air during heritage month on Oregon Public
Broadcasting. Finally, our expanded events
calendar provides a monthlong guide to Asian
art, history, culture, and entertainment.
While celebrating heritage month, we are
also standing with our fellow Asian
Americans nationwide who have continued to
be the targets of unprovoked racial attacks
and hate crimes. Please remain alert, stay
safe, and look out for one another.
