ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU),
Portland, OR has an opening for a Research Assistant
Professor in its Department of Molecular & Medical
Genetics in Portland, OR. Resp. for setting up labora-
tory instrumentation, computer programming, data
acquisition & data analysis. Assignments require the
performance of complex test procedures & analyses
involving multiple procedures & a variety of technical
approaches. Operates a variety of instruments &
scientific equipment, including operation, quality
control & maintenance. Assists with experiments, cell
culture, preparing solutions, collecting & entering
data, assuring compliance with established safety
procedures & maintaining required documentation.
Plans, conducts, & completes laboratory experi-
ments under the supervision of the head of the labora-
tory. Performs cell culture, experiments using mouse
models, microscopy and other molecular laboratory
techniques. Must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. Must
have completed a post-Doctoral Fellowship which
must include the following skills: Neuroanatomy skills
focusing on spinal cord & motor cortex; detection of
expression of various proteins in neural tissue
sections & cells using antibody-based techniques;
microscopy skills incl. basic light microscopy & laser
confocal microscopy; molecular biology techniques
assessing mRNA expression profiles incl QRT-PCR &
microarray; Western blot analysis, In-gel Aconitase
assay; mammalian tissue culture techniques incl.
generation of primary neuronal cultures from young
animals & established cell lines; design & generation
of new mouse lines by multiple crosses & verification
