Tan Dai

Tan Dai, a senior at Madison High School, is the son of
Ha To Dai and Mylinh Nguyen. His extracurricular activi-
ties include serving as president of the Madison Viet
Group, teaching at Lavang Language School, and per-
forming at and organizing his school’s Lunar New Year
event. Linh also volunteers at Gregory Heights Library
and at Vietnamese community events, and serves as a
National Honor Society math tutor. In the fall, he plans to
pursue a degree in education at Portland State Univer-
sity.

Emily Nguyen

Emily Nguyen, the daughter of Thanh Nguyen and Thy
Vo, is a senior at Tigard High School. She plays on her
school’s varsity lacrosse team as well as for her club team,
and has worked as an official in both lacrosse and
volleyball. In addition, she has volunteered with Project
Philippines and Link Crew, and has served as a counsellor
at outdoor school and as an assistant for Tigard Girls
Youth Lacrosse. Emily plans to study nursing at Linfield
College.

Franklin High School senior Kevin Wu is the son of Jian
Hua Wu and Yan Ke Chen. He works at Chopsticks
Restaurant and Lounge and volunteers for the Red Cross
Club and other organizations. Kevin’s extracurricular
activities include serving as a leader and participant in
the Portland State University College Innovation
Challenge Competition as well as the Architecture,
Construction, and Engineering Mentor Program; playing
basketball; and participating in the Vietnamese Club.
Kevin plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering
at Oregon State University.

Cultures Business Resource Group at PGE
Jessica Maung, the daughter of Min Maung and Meritje
Maung, is a senior at Beaverton High School. She works at
Old Navy and volunteers for the Rebels, an anti-tobacco
education group. She is a member of the tennis team and
performs for the Indonesian Performing Arts of Oregon
organization. In addition, she is a member of the Science
Research Club and was elected the Oregon Girls State
treasurer. Jessica plans to major in environmental
studies and pre-medicine.

Nikki Wong

Nikki Wong, a senior at Central Catholic High School, is
the daughter of Chon Wong and Mika Obara. She serves
as the co-chair of her school’s Diversity Committee and is
a member of the Japan Club and Asian/Pacific Islander
Club. Nikki, who volunteers at Loaves & Fishes as a
summer kitchen worker, also participates on her school’s
cross country, lacrosse, and U.S. Constitution teams. She
plans to pursue a degree in advertising.

Thomas Hoang

Thomas Hoang, the son of Minh Ngoc Hoang and Nga
Bach Vu, is a senior at Central Catholic High School. He is
founder and captain of the Central Catholic Robotics Club
and the captain of his school’s Science Bowl team. A
musician, Thomas plays violin for Our Lady of Lavang
youth choir and violin and viola for the Metropolitan
Youth Symphony, as well as working as a pianist. He also
volunteers at Oregon Health & Science University and the
Multnomah County Library. Thomas plans to study
biochemistry at Reed College.

Simon Chau, the son of Frank and Thanh Chau, is a
senior at Benson Polytechnic High School. He has worked
as a machinist intern for Boeing and a youth millwright
for Blount International, and has volunteered for the
Oregon Food Bank, Sunday Parkways, and the Asian
Buddhist Community Congregation. Simon’s extracurric-
ular activities include working as a kung fu mentor and
teacher and as a lion dance instructor and helper. He
plans to focus on manufacturing at Portland State
University.

Melisa Hua, a senior at Roosevelt High School, is the
daughter of Hoa Hua and Mai Huynh. She serves as senior
class secretary in her school’s student government, is the

to pursue a pharmacy degree at Oregon State University
in the fall.

daughter of Cong Minh Nguyen and Quynh Trang Thuy
Pham. She has worked as an intern at Upward Bound and
volunteers at the Providence Center for Medically Fragile

where she is a Sunday school teacher and choir leader. In
addition, Teresa is the secretary for the Madison Viet
Group. Her chosen field of study at Portland State
University is biology.
