Southern Oregon New« Review Check Stations Announced For Special Season Three checking stations w ill be operated by the Oregon State Game Commission during the special antlerless deer season in the John Day Area. These check ing stations will be located at Dayville, Mt. Vernon, and at the Junction of the Bear Creek Road I with U. S. Highway 28. T J iese stations w ill open noon, December 14, and w ill close at noon, December 19. It w ill be necessary for all hunters to check in at one of these stations. At this tim e a check-in permit will t»e issued to the hunter, and it will be necessary for the hunt er to have this permit in his pos session along with his hunting license and special tag w hile hunting. Before leaving the area, all hunters must check out at one of the stations, whether suc cessful in bagging a deer or not. Personnel at the checking sta tions w ill endeavor to aid the hunters in locating places to hunt. All hunters participating in this hunt are urged to respect private property and to use the greatest caution not to disturb domestic livestock. This special season is an em ergency measure designed to crop surplus deer on a problem winter range. The area where the hunt w ill be held winters a large deer herd, and during the past summer, severe drought | conditions and a heavy infestat ion of grasshoppers decreased the carrying capacity of the range. By harvesting some deer, it w ill limit the possibility o f 1 starvation losses this winter.
