picture, m any women w ill feel
quite free ubout w curlng th e ir last
ye a r’s clothes w ithout any changes
and few additions to the wardrobe.
A b it of sharpening here and
there on last ye a r’s clothes, how­
ever, w ill work wonders. The few
hours spent on clothes and fittin g
can even work u in tru d e which all
women cun appreciate: deft re ­
m odeling cun change last ye a r’ s
look Into this ye a r’s.
Although skirts were somewhat
shorter lust year than during the
previous season, they are now con­
siderably shorter, w ith fourteen
Inches being the Ideal length. How­
ever, us you m ay have noticed,
m any of lust yeur's dresses were
s till quite long, especially in com ­
parison w ith cu rren t new styles.
Pocket Interest, too, was evident,
but not nearly so m urked as at

S everal Methods Em ployed
For Shortening Skirts
Those of you who have some of
the slender skirts ot last year w ill
find they f it in n icely w ith the new
plans since that is the look design­
ers have been achieving In th eir
clothes.
Remove the old hem carefully
and slow ly so as not to catch or
cut the m ate ria l. Then measure
the length of the skirt, or better
s till, enlist some help. Fourteen
Inches fro m the flo o r Is the Ideal
length, but this m ay va ry slightly
one way or the other, whichever
way looks best on you.
I f m uch shortening is needed,
yo u 'll have to cut the m a te ria l so

so full, but which s till has a swing
and f l a r j to it, here's a tric k . Take
a tuck, the size of which is In di­
cated by the length, a few Inches
from the hem of the skirt. I f this
con be done properly, you’ll find
that It’s a very new and easy way
to shorten the skirt.
Incidentally, if your closet holds
clothes from several seasons, you
m ight look over those which could
not be lengthened s u ffic ie n tly for
the last two years, and see if some
fashion tric k s w ouldn't put them
into use now.
Decorative Features
Alter M any Dresses
Picturesque collars and cuffs are
very much a p a rt of the new fash­
ion picture, and simple tricks m ay
be employed fo r refreshing old
clothes.
I f you have enough m ate ria l left
over from shortening a dress, this
m ight easily be used to make col­
lars and possibly cuffs, or a pocket
or two. Collars are big. They m ay
have large points; they m ig ht be
the coachman type that stand up in
back and plunge low In front.
Some collars, especially on the
classic type dress m ig ht be the
sm all pointed type or Peter Pan
variety, and could easily be c a r­
ried out In velvet or velveteen, and
thus be exceedingly fashion-wise.
For dancing youth that de­
mand» variety, and the busy
social calendar of the college
girl that does call for many
wardrobe ch an ges, behold the
flam e-colored cravat scarf as
an accom panim ent of black
