OPPORTUNITY DRIVE
. . . THE OPPORTUNITY DRIVE of the Treasury
Department for 1949 got under way this week. Reason ,
for the drive is to increase the reserve money which |
folks in various parts of the country might need some
day.
The drive, which has as its purpose the sale of bonds,
formerly known as war savings bonds, will also help
do away with the threat of inflation.
Also, as the amount of savings in a community in
creases. the stable economy of that community becomes
better.
Buy bonds. It’s a good investment, for you. for your
community, and for the country.

BAND SEATING
. . . IT WOULD be mighty fine to fix seats in the
amphitheatre style before the new hand shell. We’re
all for it.
We only hope that the seats don’t extend up the hill
so far that those folks who like to come and sit on a
blanket spread out on the grass have no place to go.
Then there’s the kids to consider, those who dash mad
ly about playing “run, sheep run” while the band con
cert is going on. What will permanent seating do to
ward their games?
Lots of problems arise when this seating is consid
ered seriously. There’s nothing that takes the heart
out of a good bandsman like a bunch of empty seats
at a concert. Let’s hope that no one has any grandiose
ideas and gets too many seats placed before the new
bandstand, cause then they wouldn’t all be full, and
this would break down the morale of many of the play
ers.

VACATIONS
IT’S EASY to take a vacation in Oregon. We
know some folks who took a trip last year which could
scarcely be duplicated anywhere else in the United
States. Early one Saturday morning our friends arose.
At 4:00 a.m. to be exact. They drove up to Mt. Ashland,
enjoying the sunrise twice while enroute. Then they
