May 11—Miss Evelyn Ferns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Ferns of Fern Valley, and a sophomore in education a t Ore gon State College was recently chosen “little Colonel’’ at the a n nual m ilitary ball held in the Memorial Union Ballroom. She was chosen by popular vote d u r ing the dance from among seven candidates. An honor guard to escort “little Colonel” and her staff to stage were m em bers of the Pershing Rifle unit. Miss Ferns is 19 years old and tranfered from Pacific university at Forest Grove to O.S.C. this year. She graduated from Phoe nix Hi in 1947.
