E N they bought the \ \ 7H Agnes hadn't thought house. much about the grape arbor. She knew it was there, of course, but it was spring and the te n d rills were ju st beginning to green out along the back walk. Now, it was sum m er, and the vines were heavy w ith purple clusters. "B o y Isn’t that something?” said Greg, at breakfast. “ Our own vine ­ yard, rig h t in our own back yard. And i f there's one thing I lik e to eat, it's fresh, homemade grape je lly .” Agnes fe lt a twinge of m isgivings, but, even then, she failed to recog­ nize the arbor fo r w hat it was—a menace to her m arriage.
