Herbert Lewis, the new Social Econ instructor, has been living in Ashland this sum m er . He comes highly recommended from G rants Pass where he taught in the social science field. Lewis is scheduled to handle the foren sics and will enter a team in the debate contest. As previously announced. K en neth Schilling is to act as head basketball coach at the senior high and will assist with football and track. He also holds a m ast er's degree from the University of Oregon. For the past year he has been at Forest Grove and prior to being in the service he was a suc cessful coach at Butte Falls. William E. Coch ell has been in charge of the In strum ental work a t Heppner which is his home town. The school officials at H eppner have recom mended him as an excell ent band conductor to take the vacancy created by the resigna tion of Ervin Lesser. Cochell has done much professional playing and while in the navy was called back to the United States to a t tend the Navy Band school. He was assistant conductor of the band on his ship and after g et ting out of the Service took over the band work at Heppner. At the district contest at Walla Walla last spring his band was judged as excellent. Mrs. Cochell and two children are w ith him in Ashland and they are looking for a place to live this school year. S e p t 1—The Talent Schools, both grade and high, will open Septem ber 13, Supt o t Schools, Koy P arr announced to day. Buses will travel the sarm routes with the same schedules as las, year. Classes will be held only until 11:30 the first day. Only those children whose bn - thdays are on or before Novem ber 15 will be perm itted to entei the first grade. R egistration foi first grade pupils will be W ed nesday, Septem ber 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. Parents are urged to re gister all first graders at that time and bring their birth certl ficates.
