O ther business taken up included discussion of plans for a ladies night to be held in Sep­ tember and a community auction to take place later in the fall. Earl Floyd is chairm an of the Ladies night activities. Speakers included Larry Nee­ ly, past district governor of Lions, who told about the Internation­ al Lions convention held recent­ ly in New York City. Cliff Robinson, Salem, assist­ ant school supervisor of second­ ary schools was the other speak­ er. He discussed present trends in high school education and em ­ phasized the need to continually change subject m atter taught in order to meet the needs of todays .students. Robinson also requested that the members of the Lions club get behind the com m unity of Phoenix in the bond election Septem ber 3 which will decide w hether or not the Phoenix area will have an adequate high school. Three representatives of the Jacksonville Lions club also visit­ ed the Phoenix Lions and invit­ ed members to the Gold Rush Jubilee celebration which will be held in Jacksonvile in Septem ­ ber. Phoenix, August 25 — Resi­ dence in Phoenix of a tribe of Romany gypsies is giving the town m arshall and the city coun­ cil gray hairs these days. The tribe arrived last week in five auto trailers and stopped at the Highway court because of the illness of two children who are in a Jackson county hospital. A ttem pts by the city council and the m arshall to evict the tribe from the area m et with re ­ sistance from Lynn Leslie, ow n­ er of the auto court who stated that as long as they paid their rent they were as entitled to stay in the court as any one. Leslie further pointed out th a t the gyp­ sies were Romany gypsies and that they worked for a living. The tribe members, who num ­ ber approxim ately 25, spend the evenings in dancing to the music from a guitar and mouth organ.
