Rogue River is still a "barber
less" town, It was gleaned from
the paper there, although several
tonsorialists have been contacted
in hopes of relieving the long
hair situation within the next
few weeks.
Several residents of Vale, in
eastern Oregon have reported
seeing rattlesnakes In or near
that town recently. Two were
killed near the Vale hot springs
and Jack Watters killed a rattler
with eleven rattles near the
town. A mild winter In that area
is attributed by old timers to the
increase in the snake population.
August 12 was the date set by
Medford city council for the wat
er bond election to raise $75,000
needed to finish construction of
the new 3 4 million gallon reser
voir at the end of West D street.
The council proposes that the
bonds will be retired through re
venue from the water depart
ment and no additional tax levy
will be involved.
The annual Kansas picnic will
be held in Lithia Park on Aug
ust 1, under present plans. Those
attending are asked to bring suf
ficient lunch for their own party
and the lunches will then be
served together at one o’clock.
Coffee and lemonade will be fur
nished by the association. A short
musical program and business
session, with election of officers,
will follow the luncheon. Mrs. J.

sident and Mrs. A. L. Hansen
secretary.
Supervisor Gordon Jacobs of
Hornbrook proposed Tuesday at
the supervisor’s meeting that Old
Fort Jones be recreated to house
historical mementoes for the Sis
kiyou County Historical Society.
The proposition came up during
budget discussions. Fort Jones
was used to house infantrymen
to protect the main road stage
routes in early days from raids
by the Indians. The recreated
building would be placed in Yre
ka on highway 99, probably be
tween the present Siskiyou coun
ty Fair Grounds and the state
division of Forestry headquart
ers.
