That, in general, is the way communist cells are built. A large mem bership is not desired— small groups w ith the right kind o f training and indoctrination are far more easily handled. And when the time for action comes, the communist cells can act w ith incredible purpose and efficiency. N othing is le ft to chance. Everything is planned, and the task o f every member is clearly detailed. I t was last done that way in Czechosolovakia, and the world now knows the result. Finally, the communists are masters at using other groups to their own ends. Many a well-meaning liberal has advanced the communist cause without realizing it. I f he finds out what is going on and pro tests he is expertly reviled and painted a black reactionary. Commun ism skillfu lly plays every angle which may help it, no matter how in directly. * * * One Party System This state has a one party system. The Democrats, and as a matter o f fact there are only a few thousand less o f them than there are Re publicans, need to get together and break up the Republican monopoly. I t can be done. But it can be done only if the Democrats find strong candidates and run those candidates. The day is over when a Democra tic voter w ill vote fo r a yellow donkey, just because the donkey re presents the party. I t ’s too late now to cry over spilt m ilk but before the next tw o years roll around the Democrats should build up a strong organization or Oregon w ill continue to be a one party state.
