Would Create Straight
Route to Nevada Street
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Billings,
long time Ashland residents this
morning announced that they
would give a 60 foot right-of-w ay
through their property for the
purpose of establishing a truck
lane to by-pass Ashland.
This grant would provide for
a half mile roadw ay through the
Billings ranch and it would give
a straight-of-w ay from the ju n c
tion east of Dutch G us’ direct to
the west end of Nevada street.
Last Friday Billings told Mayor
Thornton Wiley of his offer, and
Billings has also, through city
councilman John Nosier, Invited
the city council to view the
property.
Billings stated today th at he
planned to ask William Briggs,
who heads the m ayor’s recently
appointed highway study com
m ittee, to view the grant and to
recommend such action as the
highway com m ittee deemed ad
visable.
The grant includes a 60 foot
right-of-w ay. If more than 60
foot is deemed necessary, Bill
ings state th at paym ent for the
additional footage would be e x
pected.
If the city would accept the
grant and then give the state
right-of-w ay for a truck route
on through the rem ainder of the
city the cost of construction
should be appreciably lessened.
