could have been avoided had we been prepared. True,
the entire war should have been avoided, but having
failed to avoid the war, shortening it by two years
would have been a great saving of both lives and mat
erials.
If preparedness would have shortened the last war,
there is the possibility that preparedness may avoid
the next war. .Little Switzerland, which has been avoid
ing wars for the past century has, nevertheless, been
fully prepared for any contingency throughout ail of
that century. This preparedness is the major reason
why that nation has been bypassed in the swirl of
wars that have enveloped central Europe.
If America is to keep out of wars we feel that she
should speak softly and carry a big stick. This we
think will assure us of a peaceful America.

Too often many of us overlook the fact that the
tourist represents a major business which affects all,
of us. It is too easy to think that the only people who
benefit from the tourist business are restaurants, re
sorts, hotels, garages, service stations, and hot dog
stands. A bit of thought on the subject will show that
everyone gains from the tourist dollar. Retailers,
wholesalers, doctors, attorneys, salesman, school teach
ers, farmers, and all people gain from the influx of
visitors.
