R E P U B L IC A N GOVERNOR "Snell Gets Tilings Done" p ri A d » — D ouq I oi McKoy, Chm . Sole»” . 0 .« Rotunda with Mr. and Mrs. Wa.v- Fires Tuesday night every garbage can on Main street was set afire. The high school students who were responsible enjoyed the mometary blazes and went on to the next garbage can. When a group of six or seven young men have no other outlet for their natural energies than to walk up and down the Main street of a community tossing matches into trash barrels it's time for the com munity to begin thinking seriously about the lack of a coordinated recreational program. To proudly point at Lithia park and state that it is one of the finest recreational areas in the state is very true. During summer days the tennis courts get a lot of play. During winter evenings, however, so few of the younger generation have automobiles the recreational advantages of the parks winding lanes are possibly not fully utilized. A fully coordinated recreational program, city wide, such as was proposed by John Nosier a few weeks ago seems to be the best answer as to "what to do with our children”. ★ ★ ★ Hallowe’en All Hallow’s Eve which happens to be this evening will be a time of apple dunking for the youngsters, and reminiscing for the old timers. Hallowe’en, like 4th has become safe and sane, and it’s for the best. The advances of civilization and modern plumbing have stopped the pranks which a few years ago were a schoolboys delight. It’s a good thing that civilization does advance. "Tricks or treats" is a better form of small fry racketeering than the out and out destructiveness which used to occur each Hallowe’en when gangs of youngsters would roam the neighborhood bent on mis chief, and no treats considered. ★ ★ ★ Change of Residence Many voters are not aware of the Oregon law which permits voters who have moved to vote. Any registered elector who changes his re sidence within the county in which he is registered during the period in which the registers are closed by law, may procure from the county clerk of his county a certificate of his registration. The county clerk when requested by an elector to make such a certi ficate will do so and will use the county seal to indicate that the certi ficate of change of residence is official. When the voter goes to the polls he will merely have to present this certificate to the election judges in the precinct in which he resides, and Today...busier than ever! If you sometimes notice a delay before you hear the familiar "Number, please,” or "Operator,” it’s be cause our switchboards, even at wartime peak, were never as busy as they are right now! Today we’re serving more customers who are making more calls than ever before. Volume at times is so great that the operator cannot answer your call as quickly as she would like. New equipment to take care of all waiting appli cants and furnish better service than ever to all tele phone users is being made and installed. But it s a nig jo b . . . and w ill take time. Our operators, meantime, are doing everything they possibly can to furnish vou the prompt and courteous service you have been accustomed to. W ise choice, Mr. F a rm e r!
