Penetrate Fabric
When most of us speak of materi­
als rotting, we may not know it but
we’re acknowledging a damaging at­
tack by fungi, since these micro­
organisms frequently don’t attack
the surface of the fabric, but pene­
trate it and feed on the cellulose
fibers from the inside. Awnings, for
example, often don’t show the visible
effects of mildew, but their short
length of life is convincing proof of
the action of fungi on the cellulose
fibers which make up the canvas.
