Letter To The Editor:
The Lion's Club of Ashland
would very much appreciate the
opportunity of e x p r e s s i n g
through the columns of the News
Review their appreciation to the
citizens of Ashland and their
many fine friends for the whole
hearted cooperation and assist
ance extended to the Lion's Club
on the occasion of the Fourth of
July celebration. Through this
willing help and assistance, the
Lion’s Club of Ashland was able
to realize better than $500.00 for
their forthcoming charitable pro
gram.
As you and your readers no
doubt know, the Lion's Club will
use these funds and other monies
contributed by its members, as a
means of furthering its com m un
ity and civic campaigns.
Again, expressing our appre
ciation, we are sincerely

The proposed water bond issue is as water under the bridge. Ashland,
however, still lacks adequate water facilities.
W hat is to be done about the potential shortage of water tor this
community?
This newspaper would appreciate hearing any recommendations, from
any source.
The people have spoken. Why they felt as they did about the water
bond issue seemingly centers about the fact that $350,000 to 400,000 of
the bonds vtas to be held until some nebulous future time when it could
be utilized. This holding of a quarter million dollars in bonds until
needed evidently didn’t appeal to the majority of the voters.
What the city council will do now remains to be seen. They recog
nized the problem and have made an attempt to meet the situation. We
hope that the Mayor and the members of the city council will make an
attempt to discuss the problem with the voters and will in this fashion
learn just what the people want and what the community would accept
in a method of increasing and improving the present water supply.
The recommendations submitted to the council by the consulting
engineer, A. D. Harvey, of Medford, were based on a population of
7000 people. If Ashland continues to expand as present tendencies in
dicate the community should have water available for 10,000 people.
This will permit industrial and residential expansion. The present sit
uation does not permit of much expansion.
The present situation cannot continue to exist. The voters have in
dicated that they did not care for the proposed plan presented by the
city council, now let the voters present a substitute plan to the city
