Ashland's winning Elks bull
club travels to Central Point Sun
day to meet the Central Point
team in u game where the odds
favor the Ashland club.
Bert Miller, wheelhorse of the
local supporters has it figured
tbut Ashlund should win; Heres
the wuy Bert has it figured out;
Central Point beat Gold Hill, 9
to 4; Ashlund beat Gold Hill, 7
to 8; C raters beat Central Point,
24 to 0; and Ashland beat the
Craters, 7 to 4. Winner, by alge
braic equation and a bit of three
dimensional addition: Ashland.
W ithout any particular form u
las the nine man ball club that
the Ashlund Elks have fielded
this year promises to reully turn
out some real ball before the sea
son is over and should now down
the Central Point outfit without
much opposition.
Including pre-season games the
Ashlund team is scoring 1000,
und from the results which they
turned in Sunday ull indications
are that given any luck at all
they will continue to score in the
upper brackets.
Team Officials request that
anyone who has extra transporta
tion this Sunday be at the Elks
Temple at 12:00 noon.
Elks Long on Score
And Injuries Sunday
In a wild, loose ball game,
spotted with injuries and hard
luck plays the Ashland team
playing for keeps sent the Med
ford Craters home on the short
end of a 7 to 5 score last Sunday
The game was played here on
W alter Phillips field.
A rt Wiggins, Elks pivot man
in the outfield, knocked himself
out when he ran into the grand
stand while trying for a high one
from the bat of J. Snider, Crater
pitcher. Wiggins spent the rest
of the ball gume in the local hos
pital.
Bert Larsen, Ashland catcher,
tried to tear out the fence when
he ran afoul of a plank as he
spurted after a foul ball. Bert
had a second round of violence
later in the afternoon when he
bumped into Neil Arant, Elks
third baseman on another try for
a foul.

Enter AAU Meet
With but one more meet to go
before closing out the season,
Ashland's all star track team
this week has been busy keep
ing in shape and closing out
school. Saturday at Portland
George Fullerton and Tad Gan-
dee enter the state AAU meet.
Fullerton will have a chance at
the Saturday meet to crack the
high school national mile record
set in 1932 by George Zamperini.
Scampering the mile in 4:21.8,
Zam perini, then a student at
Pomona high school set a m ark
that so far has been untouched.
Fullerton clocked a 4:24 at the
state m eet two weeks ago, break
ing a 34-year Oregon high school
record. At that tim e the Ashland
athlete received an offer to race
in an exhibition run against the
Montana high school champion.
Because of an Oregon state a th
letic asociation rule which limits
the distance of such trips to 600
miles Fullerton will not accept
the invitation from the Mon
tana group.
Tad Gandee, who has been out-
sprinting the m ajority of other
high school runners in this area
will also compete in the AAU
meet.
