Volcanic Eruption
Krakatau volcano, in Sundra strait
between Java and Sumatra, lay dor­
mant from 1680 to 1883, then put on
an extremely violent eruption that
darkened and flooded Batavia, 100
miles away. The eruption complete­
ly changed the form of the three
islands of the Krakatau group and
created several new islets.
Aluminum Ware
Heavy “cast’’ aluminum vessels
are made by pouring the molten
metal into castings or forms.
“Stamped" aluminumware is made
from sheets ol the metal. The sheet
is rolled out and the pots and pans
are stamped by cutter from the
metal

shape. “Stamped” aluminumware
comes in three grades—light, medi­
um and 1 avy.
Stainless Steel Pans
Stainless steel is more durable
than aluminum of the same weight
and thickness. It does not darken
in cooking alkaline foods as alumi­
num does, but, once darkened by
overheating or scorching. It can
not be brightened as aluminum can.
Aluminum has the advantage of
spreading heat more evently. so
cooks more evenly with less chance
of scorching.

Soil conservation authorities esti­
mate the annual cost of uncontrolled
erosion in the U. S. is 3.844 million
dollars.
