Soviet Marriage
Russian marriage laws are quaint,
judging from our standards. When
a couple marries in the Soviet, they
assume either the husband’s name,
the wife's name or if they want,
they can retain their own names.
Their children are also given a
similar choice. As for alimony, the
father is not the sole payer, as in
this country. Either the mother or
the father has to pay alimony, de
pending on who has the custody
of the children. The alimony is a
fixed sum of money which varies
only with the number of progeny.
C ak ?d A p p les
For baked apples, select sound
fruit. Wash, core and ccv'cr with
a mixture of sugar and water to sat
isfy individual's taste. Bake until
only one fourth done, then place in
No. 2 Re-enameled cans to within
one-half inch of top. Cover with the
sweetened juice to fill can. Seal im
mediately and process for ¿5 min
utes in boiling hot water bath. Cool
quickly, dry and label.
Cooking Came
The secret of cooking any wild
meat is to conserve moisture. Wild
meat is naturally drier and tougher
than domestic meat. The general
rule is to cook game for a longer
time at a lower temperature than
other meats. While homemakers do
not cook domestic meat in covered
pans, this method is often better for
wild meat. The covered roaster is
best for long, slow, moist cooking.
Korean Capital
Seoul, or Kcijo as the Japs called
it, became the capital of the Yi
dynasty of Korea in 1392. It saw the
development of a golden age in Kor
ean education, science and art. It
was the seat of government when the
Japanese invaded the peninsula in
1592, only to be thrown back in what
was, until lately, the only defeat of
the belligerent islanders. In 1910,
when Japan finally achieved her am
bition cf annexing Korea, as a first
step toward Asiatic conquest, Seoul
was made the headquarters of the
ruling governor general.
American Indian
Origin of the American Indian has
long been a major ethnological prob
lem. Most authorities agree that
they were Mongolians, coming here
from Asia by way of the Bering
Strait. Other anthropologists, how
ever, claim that the American In
dian originated in Malaya. In 1924,
when a law was passed providing
that all non-citizcn Indians born
within the territorial limits of the
United States were thereby declared
citizens of the United States, they
were given the right to vote.
