With the clothing shortage and also the ex pense of buying new clothing, you would do well to consider the pros pect of remodeling this clothing Into something distinctly attractive and new looking. One garment that has plenty of calls for wearing Is the Jumper. When it's tailored, the Jumper Is Ideal for buslneas wear or sports. If it's made of velvet or another of the more decorative m aterials, the Jumper makes an attractive date dress. Before any remodeling Is attem pt ed. the dress should be cleaned or washed thoroughly and ripped apart completely. Take care while ripping so that no threads In the m aterial are pulled, and m aterial so made useless. I f you want to change the color of the dress, remove the old dye first. If, of course, you are dyeing it a darker color, the original shade does not have to be removed. For the classic Jumper, trim olT the sleeves and cut the armholes, making them fairly large. I f you are uncertain as to the exact shape you desire, consult a pattern. This is Buxbaum’s to go with the Jumper so that you Moving Van. w ill have a complete costume. Wife— Wrong connection! Select Jumper Blouse In Contrasting Color The blouse for the jum per should be contrasting in color to the jum p er, itself, or it may blend with that garment. With so many new prints out this season, a worn print, pro vided it looks well with the solid color you have used in the jum per, would be highly desirable. If. however, the Jumper is of a rather conservative dark shade, the blouse can be a solid bright color that blends with the jum per. Bright red goes beautifully with navy blue, or cerise is a lovely foil for aqua. You'll find ample m aterial in most worn dresses for a blouse of almost any style and design. The most popular type for jum per wear is the blouse that ties in a bow at the neck, or one that has a neat ! collar treatm ent and buttons down S the front. The sleeves may be long , or short depending upon your taste and the m aterial available. , I f the dress is tailored, it may ' not be necessary to rip the com I plete garment. Sometimes the bod ice of the dress just needs trim m ing from the skirt and finishing to make the complete blouse. I f you do want to make a brand new blouse, rip the dress and start as you would with new m aterial. Recut the sleeves and make them long or short. Add a new collar if the dress has one that is too fussy, and do bear in mind the type of Jumper when you are making the blouse. Men's worn-out shirt cuffs may be cut off and turned. Soft col lars can sometimes be purchased a t a notions counter, or, they m ay be taken off other shirts that are not usable. Never stop stocking runs tem porarily with nail polish as this frequently damages the thread of the hose permanently. Reinforce weak spots by darning carefully before the holes appear. This is especially true for hose that tends to wear in the heels or toes or on top of the stocking. Patch slips that wear out under neath the armholes. I f the straps are worn, replacements m ay be purchased and sewed on easily. Heavy linen thread is recom mended for button sewing. But tons w ill stay on better if they are sewed with a thread shank that permits the iron point to get closer to them without snapping off the button.
